My husband is looking into a a job opportunity in Santa Paula, CA. Reading various thre, it appears that the consensus is that East Ventura, Thousand Oaks and Camarillo are good areas to raise children with good schools and safe neighborhoods. However, I have no idea what the commute would be from these areas to Santa Paula. Would love some local feedback. I also was not able to find much information on Santa Paula within these forums, so if anyone has any info or opinions on the area, please feel free to share.

I am also curious about the possibility of carting my kids to some specific activities that are only available in Santa Barbara. Is that realistic? For example, after school, during the week, driving from Ventura to Santa Barbara for some extra curricular activities, or would that be too much of a commute with traffic? East Ventura is full of nice neighborhoods.
It's just minutes from Santa Paula and it's a stright shot up the Freeway. Camarillo is considered a little more affluent. Pretty much the whole town is really nice.
Your commute will be about 30 minutes minimum. Thousand Oaks is the furthest from SP, but probably the nicest and more expensive town.
It's a bit inland so the temps will be warmer especially during summertime. Here is my take 1. If you want to be a hippy, look at Ojai as it is an artsy sorta town. A straight shot down Highway gets you to Santa Paula. The downside is that road gets a lot of damage after heavy rains limiting its use. In which case you would have to detour on 33 through Ventura.
Doesn't happen that often. Ojai is a nice town but it gets scorching hot in the summer. Ventura has a lot of nice areas and will be the easiest commute and a lot of activities for the .

It will have great weather year round. Moorpark will have, perhaps, better schools. It has the lowest crime rate and is all about young families. It has the best skate park around.
Nothing really for adults to do. The commute to Santa Paula, as Charles said, will be canyon ro. It is the more difficult commute to Santa Barbara though. Last edited by DowntownVentura; at PM. Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum. It is free and quick.
